Form 24G
File Validation Utility (FVU) has been developed by NSDL to ensure that the
Form 24G prepared conforms to the prescribed file format notified by Income Tax
Department (ITD). Accounts Office (AO) shall validate the monthly Form 24G
using FVU before furnishing the statement with a
TIN-Facilitation Center. It
should be noted that the FVU validates only the format level accuracy of Form
24G.
There are two fields in the input
screen of the FVU:
Input File
Error/Upload & Statistics Report File
1. Input File:
a.
Specify the name (with the .txt extension) of
the input file (including the path) i.e. the name of the 24G statement prepared
as per file format to be validated through the FVU.
b.
Input filename should not be more than 12
characters (including the .txt extension) and should not contain any special
characters eg. : , \ / etc.
For
example Filename can be 24GJAN10.txt
2. Error/Upload & Statistics Report
File:
a.
Specify the path where either an
'error' or 'upload & statistics report files' generated by the FVU on
completion of validation should be saved.
b.
The path can be same as the input
file path or different.
c.
Do not specify any filename, only
provide the path.
Error File:
In case of an
invalid file (not as per the file format), an 'error file' will be generated.
1. This
will be an html file (24GJAN10err.html) with the same filename as the input
file with err appended after the file name and html as extension.
2. The
error file will contain details of erroneous records like Line no., record
type, field name, transaction detail (DDO) no., along with the error code and
the corresponding error description.
In case the AO finds any error(s) he
shall rectify the error(s) and pass the file again through FVU. AO shall repeat
this procedure till he gets an error free Form 24G.
Upload &
Statistics Report File:
In case the input file is valid, FVU will generate
three files:
1. 'Form
24G Statement Statistics Report' (24GJAN10.html) is a summary of the 24G
statement successfully validated by the FVU. The naming convention of the
statistics report is ‘filename.html’ wherein filename is provided by the AO.
2. 'Upload
file' (24GJAN10.fvu) is generated with the same filename as the 'input file'
but with extension .fvu
It is a valid statement containing values generated
by the FVU which indicates that the statement has been successfully validated
through the FVU. No modifications should be made in the upload file .fvu
3. ‘24G
Statement Form’ (24GJAN1024G.html) displays all the details (i.e. AO & DDO
details) entered by Accounts Office in a statement. (Not to be submitted along
with the FVU file, only for record purpose of AO). The naming convention of the
24G Statement Form is ‘filename24G.html’ wherein filename is provided by the
AO.
